Ky and I are back on track for Greyscans actually. So expect more new jobs posted to the +todo list shortly. Or longly. As for Cybernetics, well, thanks for the poke. That's next on my list after the maps are done as far as I can finish them.
What is it about Cybernetics you want to know?
Where should I start?
Tonight is dance practice. And somehow Ky and I are supposed to be leading this one. I'm still not sure how that happened. Or how we've gotten trusted to do so. But hey ... maybe we should teach everyone the Troika. *beams*
Can we get a general computer coded ... so that we could say 'computer, tell me xxxx' and get it to answer somehow. just a thought. Coded computers could be fun. How about exits that are locked to specific attributes on players ... so that nobody can see the exits unless they have a specific flag or attribute set _underground_okay, or something like that.
There, that's my coding musings for the day.
I wonder if I can still log on to the spamboard from here. I don't have the url with me. Darn.
Hmm. We've had to use format lists and suchlike. Messy.
MUX2 with the WoD bollocks compiled in might have better support for it (since it supports things like that in the hard for for the different 'realms')
Coded computers can be a pain.. Look at the holograms I've used on Century (and note that they rely on something which has disappeared in MUX2.. grr..) and you'll see what I mean.. it's hard to produce something which reacts reasonably. But, as long as you don't mind limiting the control options (so that you're basically speaking something in a very structured form) something like that is easy to knock out. Particularly what you suggested, which is just a speech-activated softcode '+(wiz)help' type of thing. The hard part there isn't in the code, it's in compiling the information. Which would, of course, be your job ;o>
I'm rambling a lot now, I know. I'm feeling a bit weird. So Nyah. :op
OKay, went to the spamboard and even posted a comment or two. Whee!
And anyone reading this who hasn't yet voted in the current poll over on the spamboard, but is Greyscans staff ... DO IT NOW!!! *grin* There. you've been told. ;)
Posted the entire weekend history, give or take.
And now I'm thinking about coding ... Okay, I expect the computers aren't really necessary. Folks can use news files, really. :) It was just a thought, and upon reflection, not one of my better ones.
Question ... what does whoever starts building streets need to include for our taxi service? Inquiring minds want to know.
On the poll: I'm not voting, unless it ends up tied. :op
The computer stuff can be nice, but you can't (easily) make them work like Trek or most of sci-fi computers..
They'd probably end up like Snuffles..
:gives Snuffles a sock. works but :gives a sock to Snuffles. doesn't.
Even given that, it's surprising what you can do with just a list of acceptable verbs. Anyway. :o)
The builders don't need to do anything. Once I know what I'm doing, I'll walk the grid and put the numbers down myself (I'll write a little bit of code that'll keep me straight for not repeating anything).
Hmmm..
Builders might actually find it useful to think of the building in terms of areas and sub-areas /anyway/, just because work is easier when you split it into bite-sized chunks. Also, having the sub-areas better defined will make for nice routing tables. Don't feel like you've got to have nicely seperated areas though, if necessary I'll just pick arbitary points to split things down. :o)

Well, as you can see from the stuff on the spamboard, we can actually break the building down into sections. They may or may not all be the same size to begin with. And they won't all be accessible by the same methods of transportation. For instance, you can't get to Lunar City via taxi. And only your feet will get you into the Underground. You're right though, splitting it up into buildable chunks is a great idea and one i'm going to use. See building posts on +todo list, for example. Okay, there's only one so far, but hey, it's a start. And there will be new ones. :) Honest.
Well, the sub areas are next up. The main city will have them ... it does. The lunar colony will have a couple. That's probably the only places that are big enough to support them. Though I might be wrong there.
Hmm. We've had to use format lists and suchlike. Messy.

I wonder if something like the TM guestlock could be used here ... and then we could add folks with underground okay permissions to the guest list. Then the exits could just be regular exits, but dark, locked to anyone not on the guest list. And couldn't we have something in the @adesc that checks if the alt looking is in the guest list and displays something about the exit if they are, but not if they aren't? Sort of like the sub room on Aquatus, which will incidentally be changed to a ferry on Greyscans.
That's utterly do-able, but far, /far/ easier if every room in the area that uses such code has a parent which we can dump it on.
Personally, I'm very much in favour of /every/ room and exit having a parent to inherit default messages and such from if someone forgets to set something.
Also, having a red, flashing, bold ANSI message telling you that there's no @desc /really/ grabs the attention. ;o)
Note to all of us ... check with our wonderful builders from previously about which parents already exist. this could likely help us with weather code and such too.

Oh!
I know, you can tell me more about Greyscans.. like the cybernetics and such...

Oh, and /what/ is The Troika?!?
The Troika

Re: The Troika
Date: 2000-10-23 11:40 am (UTC)It appears to be my phrase of the day, but..
Oh my.
We don't have that sort of thing over here. The peasants were too busy beating each other to death to go dancin'.

Date: 2000-10-23 10:03 am (UTC)Well, umm.. you could plot? Or something. :)
Or come up with nifty things you'd want coded for Greyscans to make my and Felix's life hell ;) j/k.
Or.. hrm. You could write up a few descs for Mountcoast or Lunar city.
Or you could spam the Spamboard (love how that sounds. ;) )
Or ... you could do something completely random. Like, surf the web, or whatever.
Hope this helps. :)
Re: random acts of kindness
Guess which ones I've decided to go with. ;)
