I got roses. A dozen red roses.

Colour me charmed.

The quote is Sindarin elven, by the way. Translates badly, but approximately: "Met by night, I found my laughter, my love".

*snugs* :)

I'd like to just say how much of a bastard working with Sindarin is...

...and now that I've said that, I'm getting worried because I don't know where my notepad is... and it has the inscription in Sindarin I spent days working on in it...

The inscription is most likely in Tengwar, no? ;)

No... it's Sindarin, I'm pretty sure.

I think.

Guh. See if you can figure it out:

Kalawen: beriant an penio hîn lheito

('Kalawen' is the name that [livejournal.com profile] elance uses for this... I think the translation is 'lightbonded'. She worked out my name, but won't tell me, yet.)

Well, elven is written with Tengwar, be it Sindarin or Quenya elven. So the inscription would be Tengwar runes, unless you wrote it with english characters? :)

Ahh.

I have no idea... the Elvish inscriptions were E's idea...

Oh. And it reads, directly translated:

"Protects set down these marks"

(Beriant and penio are verbs, but I suspect Beriant in this case is a name)

beria- "protect", inf. berio, pr.t. beria, pa.t. berianne- (3 sg beriant), fut. beriatha, imp. berio, part. beriol (perfective bóriel), pp. beriannen (pl. beriennin), ger. beriad

penia- "fix, set", inf. penio, pr.t. penia, pa.t. penianne- (3 sg peniant), fut. peniatha, imp. penio, part. peniol (perfective póniel), pp. peniannen (pl. peniennin), ger. peniad

However, the corret way of writing it would be
" teithant i thiw hin" (Not hain echant, as I said in my deleted post..)

Then again, I could be completely off my rocker, and it could mean something else entirely. :)

It was /supposed/ to be 'protected to set her free'. We had to mangle stuff to try and figure out how to do 'her', for example...

What reference were you using there?

Sindarin Elven ... Okay, I can see I might just have to work on learning that. :)

Thank you.

I protest. I didn't understand it any more than you did!

It got boring. :)

So boring, in fact, that people have written language courses in Quenya and Sindarin.
