Just because I need to rant a bit.
Nov. 21st, 2004 10:54 amIt's sunday morning, and I've been doing some thinking. That's never a good sign. I'm relatively stressed out, both with work and school, and I don't really need more stress on the RP games that I'm volunteering to help run or just playing on.
Unfortunately, that's what I'm getting. Oh, and while this does have to do with RS, it's not about yesterday's conversation - so don't panic. I'm just a little concerned about folks who pick up their marbles and go home, without even giving anyone a chance to do anything about it.
Gosh darn.
Let's see. We get the first inklings of a complaint, not in an official forum, but in an LJ post. Official complaints are so much easier to deal with, but that would apparently be too easy. So the first I hear that there is an issue is when someone in LJ complains that they're @decomping their character and seriously considering not logging into RS any more. Mm, yes, that's definitely allowing me to help out, yup. I'm sure I can fix issues I don't know about. The fact that we're called wizards on the game doesn't give us the ability to read minds, sorry.
Next, someone who isn't even staff on the game suggests that they will deal with the problem and are given all kinds of thanks, even though they can't do a darn thing about it. And it's not really even their place to do anything other than bring the complaint to the staff.
Meanwhile, here I am trying to get to the bottom of things and find out what's going on. Which is a thankless task, in general, and this time is no different. So, the @doing got removed, the staff was reminded about the pub chan being a place for everyone, and yet, I'm unfriended on LJ without so much as a by-your-leave.
Sweet. Very kind and I appreciate the slap in the face.
Next time, I won't bother putting in the effort for someone who's already made up their mind and lumped me into a category with "them."
Gee. That's kind of what they were complaining about in the first place, isn't it?

Date: 2004-11-21 05:53 pm (UTC)I was actually just gonna bring it to the staff's attention and that's 'bout it, cause there's nothing I can do on my own. But then you saw the post and I just left it to you.

Date: 2004-11-21 05:54 pm (UTC)I figured that's what you had in mind. Anyway, whatever they decide, that's their call. I've addressed the situation anyway.

Date: 2004-11-21 08:53 pm (UTC)I'm not sure what your experience is with these things, but it's been my experience that complaining to a MUSH about the actions of its wizards is a sigularly fruitless task. At best, the wizards all band together and tell you to screw yourself (politely or not), and at worse, all you do is start (or prolong) internecine conflict and backbiting between the wizards.
Honestly, it's been my experience that the only time that one wizard will help you with a complaint versus another wizard is when they already have a bone to pick with the offender.
Secondly, I don't know if it's how you meant to come off, but you did sound very confrontational in your replies to Vesh. "I'm also not going to comment on this thread further because I don't think I have anything more to say that is constructive or useful." and "Okay - one more comment. There is also the thought of asking what was going on before Ellie logged on." made it sound like you considered the situation her fault and her overreaction.
If I had to guess, I'd say that those are what made up her mind, and not any prejudgement of you. I haven't asked her about it, but I"ll admit that your responses got -my- hackles up, and I wasn't even involved in the situation.

Date: 2004-11-21 09:56 pm (UTC)Nor was this put there for you to see - To be honest, I wasn't thinking about who was on my friend's list when I posted.
Thanks for the comment though. I'm willing to admit that I might have come off as confrontational whether it was intended or not. It's always a difficult thing in this medium.
