Ruminations
Feb. 12th, 2002 10:49 amLast Night in RP ... discovered just how easy going an elf Cascade really is. *grins* It's kind of funny how only Dashhull manages to make her angry. Speaking of which, Dash does have exquisite timing. He couldn't have logged on at a better time if I'd paid him.
I didn't. Honest.
(*checks if computer is done zipping up files yet and starts mass delete*)
Elyse got to help out in discovering a dead Aes Sedai, and her badly injured Gaidin. I guess that's another free Gaidin wandering about the tower for all the unbonded Aes Sedai types. Course, Elyse isn't allowed to bond any of them, so it doesn't matter so much to her.
Yet.
And Elhaym returned. Hurrah! That was cool. She always makes me laugh. Poor Patrick though.
The card tournament is over now on RS. The tables I think have been locked. Once the tournament postings are done, we're gonna open them up for free play. Though I'm not sure what Alery has planned for the credits. I still think there should be a change machine in the Epsilonia that allows folks to switch MUX money for credits. It would work really well.
Must remember to consider timeline staff thoughts. We need timeline policy, timeline open bbpost, timeline staff position open bbpost ... oy.
How did I get myself into this?

That is the plan. Just gotta create the silly thing. I'll work on it tonight.. once the ISN bbpost + final standings go up, I'll unlock the tables again.

*polishes her halo*
Not my doing... blame Winter and Gwyd. ;)

Nubi brought me on Aquatus, introducing me to, well, everyone except Ky, Ana, and Felix.
Some time after that I asked you to be the TP roy, etc. :)
If he didn't show off Aquatus, none of this would happen.
Strictly speaking, you could blame Ky for all this. She did introduce you to MU*s, didn't she? :)

I'm sure she'll be pleased to hear it's all her fault!

I just need to say: I dislike the idea of /anything/ using the hardcoded 'money' for IC purposes, since that money is generated and used pretty much arbitarily - someone who is ICly poor, but logs on often, could then out-bet someone who is ICly rich, but hardly ever logs on.
Of course, it's all for fun, and we should be able to trust the players to stay IC, but it still just feels wrong to me.
(And no, I don't have a better suggestion either, so I won't whine if you do end up doing this. ;o) )

Date: 2002-02-12 08:59 am (UTC)Having /IC/ anything that involves precise amounts of /IC/ money is impossible without coded econ.
I've never seen those tables being used along with actual RP, so I don't think it ultimately really matters if they use hardcoded money or not.
I am worried that we'll have more people playing poker than RPing, but that's another matter entirely...

Date: 2002-02-12 09:03 am (UTC)remember the different levels of tables. I don't know if folks are rping at the tables, but I would like to make those tables listen ... or whatever it takes so that folks away from them can hear, and folks at them can hear rp in the Casino...
Now that the tourney is over. Okay, that will involve some spam if folks are playing, and others are rping ... but *shrugs*
I think we could try it and see how bad it really is.
What do you think?

Date: 2002-02-12 09:09 am (UTC)Emitting stuff going on in the room into the table... I'm not sure on that, but I'm inclined to say 'no' as well. If only because one would think that people gathered to play poker want to just play, otherwise they'd be out and RPing.
Technically, we could see about letting only some messages through from the poker tables, but it's really not worth the effort in my opinion.

Date: 2002-02-12 09:13 am (UTC)If anyone is playing, they can't possibly rp with anyone who isn't, due to the way the tables work. So, if we keep the tables, and refuse to spam, nobody playing poker can ever rp at the same time with anyone not playing poker. Just by virtue of the fact that they can't see the poses.
And anyone who is not playing poker has no idea how the game is going. If we could set it up so only player poses go back and forth, I'd be happier with that, to be honest. I just didn't think it would be possible.
Oh, and the rp poses coming into the tables might kickstart the players into rp. That is the name of the game, actually.
There you go, my opinion, for what it is worth.

Date: 2002-02-12 09:18 am (UTC)Uhh.. no. If people want/need to RP in the Epsilonia, they shouldn't have to move, no matter what.
I still think that nobody playing poker can (or will) RP with anyone not playing, just because of the nature of the card game. It's too fast. You either play it, or you RP. I know, I tried both, and it didn't quite work. Unless you're willing to pose one and half liners.
And anyone who is not playing poker has no idea how the game is going.
The question is, I guess.. do they care at all? For all we know, there can be a scene going on in an entirely opposite corner of the room, where nobody would see the tables, nevermind what's going on at them.
All that said, Felix's idea (@pemit instead of @emit) might work. Poses would go through, but game-specific info wouldn't.

Date: 2002-02-12 09:24 am (UTC)But I digress.
If I'm rping in the Epsilonia and someone comes in and starts a poker game, I suppose I might not want them there. I could be rping that it's 8am and the tables are closed, for instance. Which I have done, actually. *grins*
We did in fact have a couple requests for the poker tables, not just one.
I'd be tempted to eliminate (or move) 2 of the tables, so there's only one there. Perhaps move them to the ooc area?

Date: 2002-02-12 09:37 am (UTC)That's a better example than the one I gave. :) Then again, on B5, the casino might be 24/7. But anyway...

Two isn't much more than one...

*shakes her head*
No. Just ... no. That'd be such an incentive to spend time OOCly that I don't even want to consider it. I don't want to see people sitting OOCly playing poker for hours.
I do like the idea of removing two tables (Go figure... *grin*). Maybe we could just lower the betting amounts a bit, up the player limit, and leave just one table in the room?

Date: 2002-02-12 09:42 am (UTC)Remove 2 tables, so there's only one (and we don't care if there's up to 8 players, say? I don't really mind what the player level is set to. We've already cut down on spam, anyway.
And if we use Felix's idea, that should help remove spam too. Yes?
no subject
Date: 2002-02-12 09:47 am (UTC)I'm open to suggestions on the new betting amounts... and I think we can set the player limit to 10 or something. Chances are we won't get that many people playing at the same time anyway (or, rather, I hope we don't).
And yeah, we'll use Felix's idea. I'll look into it, unless he wants to. There are a couple other minor things that should probably be fixed too.

Date: 2002-02-12 10:34 am (UTC)Really, I don't want it to be high stakes gambling.
We could do a poll and ask what folks want. Have occasional high stakes tourneys, if folks are interested.
Don't care what the player limit is really.
*shrugs*
Does that help?

Date: 2002-02-12 09:06 am (UTC)I'm assuming that that TP was started to kick off RP, and it's not really worked People just played with the pretty toy.
We might want to hold off on opening the tables up for general use, perhaps? Because if we do that, and find that people play them instead of RP, we'd be in a difficult position if we removed them...

Date: 2002-02-12 09:13 am (UTC)We might also want to find a better medium to discuss this. I don't relish the idea of players reading staff discussions. :)
No offence to the players, of course, but...
