The roads are way too crowded with cars at 7am. Seriously. We need to find better modes of transportation.

In other news, I got a Solara post up for the first time in weeks. This is a good thing. *snoopy dances* Cause you know, there's a whole lot of catching up I still need to do. ;)

In other other news, more calculus tutoring looms on the horizon. I do hope I can help. Guess we'll see how it goes. Tonight - RP on RS at 8pm. Must remember that. Thursday, dinner with the parents. (Still gotta get Dad a b-day gift, but heck if I know what he needs. I'll have to call Mom.) Saturday 10am - calculus. Hrmph.

I was reading the Economist from the beginning of this month. It's amusing how there's letters from various folks contradicting each other. I'm not saying which is right or wrong, or if either is. I just noted the opinions. In this particular case, the letters were reacting to articles on the relationship between Japan and China. The letter from the Japanese person said that many Japanese people considered China to have an arrogant attitude, even though the Japanese had apologized for atrocities committed during war time on more than one occasion. The letter from the Chinese person said that the Japanese had never genuinely apologized. There's obviously more to it than that - and I admit this is the first issue of the Economist I have so I didn't read the original articles - but still, it does show just how difficult politics and relationships can be, in a simple and almost elegant fashion. The letters are one right after the other in the magazine.

I do find it amusing, but at the same time, it makes me wistful, pensive and thoughtful. I wonder if we'll ever move forward.

Funny. I was reading all about the same thing between China and Japan just yesterday... though my articles came from CBC Viewpoint. (I had followed [livejournal.com profile] courtly's link to the Nunavut soda pop article and ended up distracted. *sigh*)

Must be one of the current hot topics. ;)

*laughs* Well, I can loan you my economist copies after I read them. So long as you return them ... I'm gonna need them for research purposes, I'm sure.

*laughs* That could be cool. I'm sure I can return them easily enough.

Deal. Of course, I have yet to finish reading the first one.

But hey - it'll only be a little out of date. ;)

Hey, that's no problem.

It's not like I need it for anything other than curiosity.

There is that. Okay. I'll pass them your way once I read them... and when you're done, pass them back. *grins* Seems reasonable to me. I think I still have 3 or 4 of your books too, so I'll work my way through those as well. ;)

*grins* Happy summer! ;)

Yay for summer! *beams*

And I'm all caught up on RPOL again. ;)

True. Very, very true... ;)

Funny how that works.

Absosmurfly. ;)

Of course, you all are giving me time to refine my cunning plan. :)

Well, of course we are!

*rolls eyes and chuckles* 'Cause, you know... you so very much need that time. I mean... You can't possibly plot otherwise.

I know. I know.

It's way too far beyond your oh so very limited capabilities. You have such a tough time of it... so much so that the fire alarms in the house have to be turned off when you try, just so that the burning grey matter doesn't set them off. ;)

Exactly.

I have a better transportation system. :) :) Subway from my downtown condo to my northern city client site. :) :)

From: [identity profile] damara.livejournal.com
Good for you! I'm envious. ;)

See - I was okay with Go-train downtown and subway to work, when I was working down town.

But ... working in Mississauga and living in Ajax makes for lousy transportation system. ;)

Blagh. :( Is it a long-term job/contract? Move?

Date: 2005-04-26 03:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] damara.livejournal.com
Oh, I've been doing this commute for 4 years now, just about. ;) The problem with moving is that I don't want to deal with that particular option while I'm working on my MBA...

Date: 2005-04-26 03:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] courtly.livejournal.com
Hee hee... unless you've found a way to listen to lectures in transit, I'm not sure I buy that. ;)

How many hours each way? :P

Date: 2005-04-26 03:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] damara.livejournal.com
It's more a function of money than time, so far as moving goes. At the moment, it's about 1 hour 15 minutes one way. And I'm over half way through the MBA ... ;)

For FOUR YEARS?

2.5 hours a day, about 200 working days in a year, four years...

2,000 hours down the tubes. :P

Eeep - just for comparison (and I'm sorry if you feel like I'm making an example out of your or something... it's not the intent)... how many classroom hours are involved in your MBa studies, over all?

Date: 2005-04-26 04:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] damara.livejournal.com
6 hours class time a week, Sept to April, more or less. Yes, I spend more time in the car than in class. :)

That is so terrible. Do they offer audio tapes of the lectures? At least you could study up on the road or something.

My roomie Chris in Univ. pissed off one of our other roomies Nicole on year... his sum total of studying for the exam in an Economics course they both took, consisted of listening to the lectures on tape, ONCE, on the trip down from Sudbury to Waterloo to take the final. He beat her on the course. I don't believe she ever forgave him.

From: [identity profile] damara.livejournal.com
*blinks* Okay, that's good for him, but I'd be upset too, truthfully.

No, the lectures are not on tape, or CD, unfortunately. If you're lucky, you can get the powerpoint slides the teachers are using.

I took it as "Chris is a natural economist, while Nicole should probably find another field of study". It came so naturally to him. The concepts made perfect sense, and he could immediately see how to apply them. Nicole was what we might call a more typical engineer, I think.

natural talent

Oh, true enough. True enough. And if we were all good at the same things, the world would be a quite boring place.

Still, you're right, I wouldn't forgive him either. Especially not because he had a tendency to ... not gloat, but let's just say he wasn't always a very empathic person when it came to his own success. :)
