So, I'm driving along in the rush hour traffic, on the 401 westbound this morning. I know there's a big slowdown ahead, because the traffic report is just full of the 2 right lanes closed in the Express at Bathurst. Alright, alright. So, well ahead of there, I put myself in the exactly correct lane to choose either the express or the collectors, just in case. And I'm driving along, through the little bit of snow falling. There's snow blowing all over the road, because it's freezing cold out there, and the snow is light and airy.

I see this red car behind me - I think it was red anyway, I'm not sure any more - zoom across 4 lanes of traffic to make it from the fast lane of the express into the collectors. Then I think, "Oh, he's changed his mind." Then I realize "No, he hasn't changed his mind" as the car turns so it ends up slamming front first into the median, back across all 4 lanes of traffic. So far as I know, he didn't hit any other cars, but I'm not convinced they didn't hit him as they came up along the highway. Maybe not, most cars were going slow, due to it being rush hour and all.

Oh, and I couldn't tell you if the driver was male or female, and I'm not trying to make any comments on anyone's driving. It's just a note that I was really close to an accident today, and that's a little scary. I hope that driver is okay. I was past it when it happened, with no way to back up, so I didn't stop. But you know, if he'd been a couple feet closer to me, I think he'd have hit my car...

There has to be a way to stop this stupid commuting.

GO train into Mississauga? Though it'd probably be worse in the end.

And that is just an ugly area of the 401 to have lanes closed at... Though with the collector being reduced to 1 lane just before Bathurst, it'd probably be advantageous to switch to collector then. The leftmost lane doesn't end, since it later branches off into Allen Rd, so you'd even have plenty of time to adjust lanes if you didn't want to return to the express later.

And with all that said... I'm glad you didn't end up in an accident!

Go Train - I've considered it, believe it or not...

Unfortunately, it's not workable really.

GO train to Mississauga requires taking go train to Union, waiting a minimum of 15-20 minutes and taking the next train, then waiting for a local transit bus... to get to work for 9, I'd have to catch the 6am train (or whichever one is there abouts). And I'd never get home before 8pm, at the earliest.

Yeah, that rather sucks. Another option is to take GO train to Union, then take TTC into Missisauga, but that'll be even more of a pain.

Hrm. What if... could you take the bus to Yorkdale, then switch busses and head to Mississauga? Still driving, but at least it'd not be you doing it. :) I'm not sure if there's a Mississauga bus from Yorkdale, but there might be... either from Yorkdale or from York Mills.

And if all else fails, you could look into moving close to work, if you're /really/ dislike the commute?

Can't afford to live in Toronto or the west end of town.

I can check the bus schedules, though odds are it will still require me to leave the house by 5:30am. It's a thought.

I'll investigate.

Nah, you could probably get away with leaving around 7 or so. I looked over the schedules real quick, and though I only vaguely remember where you work, I think something could potentially be worked out with YorkMills/Yorkdale and the Milton bus... Good luck. :)

*laughs*

But It'll take me 45 minutes from the Milton bus to get to work!

*snickers* Well, then, so much for that idea. ;)

Yeah, unfortunately, none of the go train/bus stops are anywhere near where I'm working ...

It's just sad.

Maybe I should checkout stopcommuting.com.. or something. ;)

There has to be a way to stop this stupid commuting.

Two spring immediately to mind:

  1. Find a job in Ajax (or at least closer-to...)

  2. Win the 30M lottery.

Shame neither is so simple.

*snugs* I'm glad you're okay, though.

Yeep! Scary close call, indeed. Glad you weren't in the line of impact!
