Something else I've been thinking about.

sinjunI've been thinking about out-of-theme plots run on themed MU*'s, particularly in relation to RS. Why? Because I run them there, that's why. With the fuzzles and the drakelings aboard the station, neither one a canon plot device, I've been thinking how I would react if a player suggested those particular plots, or others that aren't necessarily canon. I've also been thinking about the plots that players have suggested, and what I've done with them.
Pardon me while I think my way through something. Yes, I do need to write it down to think it through. That's part of how I work!
Let's see - there was the psycho alien impregnating women on station - but I never did get anyone to agree to play that role. Could still resurrect the plot though, cause it's on the list of potentials. I think it would be fun to play, if there's player interest.
There's Brendan's request for thunderbolts - which we started, but it's sort of died out. Mostly cause RL is being cruel to Bren so far as I know atm. I'm not sure he'll get them, but well, that's still not been decided. (open ended plots, gotta love 'em.)
What else have players suggested? Well, if I don't count Delenn and Sheridan as players (which I don't any more - they're staff too), then I don't know that there have been many other player plots on RS. Certainly none recently, other than the personal let's have fun personally ones.
So, I've not got a lot of experience in dealing with off-the-wall plots presented by players, this much is true. Some, yes. And I certainly come up with some off the wall plots myself on occasion. I guess the drakelings weren't really my idea, but I'm not sure they count, as they are the idea of a good friend. The fuzzles were my idea, though the end to them has been modified. (Yes, I did have an end planned, but I like the player generated one better.) (It happens.)
The Dukhat plot was a combination staff/player thing, since the person in question apped it before becoming staff, became staff and then wasn't staff. And besides, it was approved before ever I was staff and that's one thing I feel strongly about. I might not agree with all decisions made before I was staff, or even now that I am staff, but I will support the rest of the staff, at least so far as the player base is concerned. That's something I've discovered I'm not alone in, and it's a good feeling. I might gripe to the rest of the staff though - that's besides the point. And that plot fell through due to RL taking the player concerned offline. So it rather ended up a moot point, and still leaves me with the line that I've not a heck of a lot of experience with out-of-theme player developed plots.

I guess I've got some experience to get as time goes on. Learning to do. Though I like to think that I'll give any plot a fair shake. Any well thought out plot any way. It'll be interesting to look back on this post in a year and see whether or not I think I've done a good job of it.
