Sleepy. Not, apparently, as badly off as [livejournal.com profile] aleriel but then I did go to sleep at a reasonable time. So, I’m not sure why I woke up tired.

Well, I tried to go to bed at a reasonable time. Logged off the computer and everything. But due to a wonderful call from [livejournal.com profile] crookandchase, I didn’t quite make it. Go figure.

So, update. Uhm, well, Thursday and Friday were busy, work and then rp – wow. That scene with Elyse was a lot of fun. So much so, that I already posted the log, despite my tons of junk logs to wade through to see what else needs to be posted. I know I have a couple with Yasmin that need to be posted. Just to everyone else can see what Theznar is up to. *grins* Maurel’s company won a competition – though they were fighting some old guys. ;) So, Mau basically hired the old guys as trainers. Hey, he’s not entirely stupid, you know. Ugly yes, stupid no. Carai was involved in the battle to destroy what was left of CS. She brought along some Manetheran forces too, which is neat.

Warren holt is visiting Briarholt, and the falling ash is about to finish up, so we can move to the next step in the plot. Coralfire got ganged up on by Xhosa, Torgan and Kephissa. They destroyed her tent, so she had to share with someone else. And Torgan quite generously offered to share his tent. Shelbor offered his too, but he wasn’t planning to share. He lost out cause Coralfire didn’t think she should put anyone out of their tent – if they could sleep outside so could she, after all. And in the morning, Shelbor had snuck off home to Olbar. Poor guy. Though that wasn’t particularly much of a fight over Coral, I must say.

RS – well, I have been taking a bit of a break from RS, but I think I’m about ready to get back into it. Hopefully, people didn’t mind too much that I wasn’t rping.

Oh yes. And I have to give 2 people the addy for Heroes. *Mwahahahaha* Be afraid. Be very afraid. ;)

In Neopets – I have redefeated the Pant Devil – with my new Scorchio. But I know I’m not up for the Ghost Lupe yet. I’m working on it, though. One step at a time. I need to raise my neopet’s hitpoints so she doesn’t die instantly. At least, that’s the plan. We’ll see how it goes. Oh yes, and see if I can’t get her petpet’s level raised. So far, that’s not worked well at all. How do you wake up that beast anyway?

Saturday’s classes were more boring than those from earlier. We had some more team building, but it was much more laid back, as we discussed the diversity of the group. Somehow, a lot of what was discussed, we’d already talked about, at least in our group, earlier in the week. Then there were a couple of presentations on Business Plans and Presentations.

The information on presentations and business plans will be immediately useful at work. I can see this already, just from the 2 hours we’ve spent in class on it. As a business analyst, never mind a manager of any form, these are tools that I need to use. Some of what was taught was a refresher, some was new. This is probably going to always be the case. I found it interesting to pay attention to the presenting styles of the two different lecturers. Despite being very different, both spoke well and passionately about their topics.

In a very practical sense, these talks covered skills, as opposed to more cerebral concepts. This makes them instantly applicable, without too much thought. We were asked to consider 3 things that we can take from the presentations and use at work. With respect to business plans, a lot of what goes into that document goes into a concept proposal or project charter. It’s a difference of scale, more or less. That presentation refocused my attention so that hopefully the documents I am working on will take advantage of this refresher course. I am trying to be more thoughtful about my audience as I work today. Planning and word choice both depend on who I am talking to. The purpose of my concept proposal is to persuade higher level management to fund the project that I am talking about. This is something I need to keep in mind while I’m creating it. Sometimes I get caught up in the trees and forget to look at the forest.

With the talk on presentations, some of what was discussed was also applicable to facilitating a meeting, something I do more than give presentations. Room setup and preparation seems to be in my key learning here. They are things which seem obvious, but some of the pointers were things I would not have thought of on my own, things like presenting to the top third of the group rather than the middle, methods for improving my speech so that I come across as more professional (where to break in sentences for example, don’t read a written speech, don’t bring notes, project your voice, make eye contact), room temperature having an effect – keep it cold rather than warm, and so on. Some of these I did already know, but some were new to me, making that little lightbulb go off on top of my head. I have a meeting on Thursday that I can use some of this at. I shall have to report back on how successful I am with it.

I skipped the computer orientation session, though I did collect the manual, so that I can see what all they wanted me to learn.

Sunday, well - [livejournal.com profile] aleriel already said. Friends were over. The conversation ranged over RP – both online and table top, other friends, Pennsic War, Bonfield, childishness in grown adults, and well, over a billion other topics. It was a lot of fun, and ended way too soon.

And now, back to work.
