On Dinners
So, it was a small group of 10 people for Thanksgiving dinner. Really small and quiet, actually. We had lots of food, lots of laughter and good fun. Jessica and Lauren sang grace, all about a turkey who ran away from home, because he didn't want to be a Thanksgiving Turkey. Oops?
On the menu: Appetizers - mini quiches, spring rolls, rice crackers and antipasto, pita bread and hummus.
Main course: Turkey, stuffing, ham, gravy, mashed potatoes, squash and onions (that I made), squash and sweet potatoes, parsnips, carrots, peas, loganberry sauce, cranberry sauce, coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumbers, brussel sprouts - a veritable rainbow of food.
Desserts: pumpkin pie, lemon meringue pie, frozen chocolate pudding pie, fudge.
And we all got to try some aquavit, at least those who wanted some.
Then I walked Mom home, and said hi to Magic and Merlin. Funny animals. Mom had company for all of last week or so, and she had extra food that she can't eat. Dad's gone hunting way the heck up north on the Ontario-Manitoba border, so he won't eat them. I'm not complaining - I got lots of goodies. ;)
Then Mom took Magic and headed back around the corner to Aunt Leah's, since that's where the crowd was. Of course, the funny thing was watching Merlin. He went with her all the way around the corner. I don't know if he made it to Aunt Leah's but I wouldn't be surprised. Silly cat thinks he's a dog sometimes.
Yes, he travels. It's no wonder he got lost at my house. It's just a wonder he doesn't get lost more often. but he's a sweetheart of a cat, at any rate.
It was somewhat odd to have thanksgiving dinner without dad there. It's been a while since that happened, but I guess we'll have to get used to it. We're already suggesting that Thanksgiving next year should be up in Pembroke if Mom and Dad's new house is ready by then.
Guess we'll see.
