Bleah

Rain. It's close enough to April that I suppose I shouldn't complain. And then too, it's not snow. These are both positive things.

Head still hurts, but I'm going to ignore that as much as I can today.

Got an 80% on the second essay for OB. I'd have been happier with a higher mark, but I'll settle for that one. The teacher was all nice and telling us he'd like us to all come take his HR course. yeah, maybe. He's nice enough, but I don't believe his end-of-class compliments. I expect he says that to every class. Good press and all.

But that only leaves us with one essay to complete for OB, and it's done. I expect we'll have that done for next Monday.

And then there's finance. *sigh*

In rp thoughts, the integration to the game of folks is an interesting thought. Why must we either be in conflict with the White Tower or be integrated into it? Is that really a requirement for staying on Daes? Oh, play integration is one thing ... but that is absolutely not the same thing as being joined at the hip to the modern white tower or fighting like cats and dogs with it. If people spout canon at me, I will merely start to list off the Kinswomen, the Aiel wise women, the Windfinders ... there are more than enough examples of NON Tower affililated channelers. Okay, so they don't call themselves Aes Sedai. So? Does this mean that groups can't rp together? Now in canon the Sedai do tend to look down on these folks, at least until they learn better - looking down on an Aiel wise woman tends to get you digging gigantic holes with a spoon, after all - but you know, there's rp in that too. And it is not a necessary requirement.

My biggest problem with getting RP with the Daes folks is exactly the same as I have with some of the Heroes folks - they're either not online, or they're idle.

If you're looking for interesting plots on Daes, look at it this way - in canon, as Laurel said, one of the general themes is that the White Tower has become so hidebound and insular that they just don't know what is going on out there, and they can't deal with change. Start with this thought. Now, is this true on Daes? Or not? If so, then consider that the Heroes folks do not swear to the oath rod and are for the most part a fairly young bunch. They adapt well enough to change, even if we have always had to drag some of them kicking and screaming along. It still works. But the question is - what changes? Logically, the heroes folks, right? Except that there are 2 oaths that Elyse will not swear, not just one. And if she is given the choice between swearing those oaths or death, she will at this point in time choose death. If she's given the choice between swearing those oaths or not being an Aes Sedai, you all will have her ring and shawl so fast it will make your heads spin, and she'll be gone. *shrugs* How does this work for integration? I don't know. But I do know that there are other options besides join the modern tower. There are always other options.

So, for all those people (actually, I expect they don't read my LJ anyway, so don't sweat it) who were gloating and just waiting to see all the Heroes folks forced to swear to the oath rod, go away and leave me alone. It won't happen, unless I decide to kill my characters off. If the staff decides that's how it goes, that's their choice of course. But you know, it doesn't seem they're going to do that. So it's pretty much a nonissue.

Now, giving heroes folks a purpose to be here? Fighting the shadow they know - Yeah whatever. And why did they have to come here to do that, when that's exactly what they were doing where they were? They left an unfinished battle to come to another world and pick up the same battle. It's an interesting mental question ... It kind of goes along with all those folks who just expected us to come along through the portal stones, blink once and naively go join the tower, swearing our lives and souls away, with absolutely no clue what's going on. Sorry Victor - not going to happen. Our characters have more depth than that, thank you very much. Oh, that would be the easiest for the Daes folks wouldn't it? No muss,no fuss, and they don't have any work to do... but let's face it, all our plotting that I can see revolves around putting an Amyrlin in on Daes, preferably a Daes time one, and then plotting for Heroes folks. (Except Silver's - she's got some plot that involves both groups.)

How about this way of putting the plotting ideas - we need plots that bring Daes characters and Heroes characters together. Period. We don't need an amyrlin, we don't need a global purpose or an overarching story line. We just need to get the two groups playing together. Oh, and you know, bbposts work when it comes to plotstuff. Ya don't have to use @mail. Yes, I know - that means everyone on the game gets to see it... why is that a problem? Nobody has to read it if they don't want to, and I'm convinced that 75% or more of people on the darn game (any game) don't bother to read the bbposts anyway, so who cares? Besides, when things like lessons are offered to everyone, but not everyone knows that, it's a problem. When your refuge is supposed to be built outside Tar Valon's walls, but it isn't? There's fuel for rp there, I suppose. When we're supposed to be letting Tower folk in to visit us, but we aren't, for some strange reason ... Are people not reading the bbposts? I mean, it's exasperating when the very people who post stuff can't be bothered to go along with what they said or to update it if these things have changed. How the heck are the rest of us supposed to know? Read their minds?

Momentum has already been lost - it's too late to try to keep it. You can try to get it back, but good luck to you. folks have already been disillusioned. No offense to Silver, she's very good, but plotting is not a one person job. Yes, someone needs to be in charge, but that person should not be responsible for making every tp decision or for running every tp. Every game I've staffed on/played on that had one person in charge of TPs and that's the only person who ever did anything with tps ... it ended up with burnt out TP staff and other staff who couldn't understand why. Hopefully that won't happen on Daes. Hopefully, I'm misreading what's actually going on there. I'm concerned that I'm not though and I'm worried about a friend. If you want to run an overarching theme sort of plot, you need to have the entire staff agreed to it, aware of it, and helping with it. Or it doesn't work.

So if there is an overarching theme, that's great. But more and more, I'm seriously considering just having my alts find a way through the portal stone and leaving. It's becoming too much of a hassle and added stress I don't really need right now.
