I think I figured it out, anyway... Looking at the post, I know that you wrote up the original BG in Word (or similar) and cut and pasted it into the LJ send window. Thus, any of your apostrophes were probably autocorrected in Word to be ’ instead of ' (I'm not even sure this is showing up any different in this comment). The first one doesn't always translate properly across programs and you get weird symbols or code strings replacing it (often an upside down "?", actually). Something to do with Unicode/UFT-8 encoding. I don't really understand it. I just know that Word screws things up like that a lot.
Go figure.
