Good weekend ..
Apr. 21st, 2008 10:04 amOkay, admittedly I did not get to that Odyssey stuff floating around in my head. Oops.
But I did have a good weekend nonetheless.
Got home Friday evening and had dinner with Mom, Dad and Aunt Jean. Laughed a lot, talked a lot, drank some wine. It was nice. Mouse died on the computer - well, it really just needed new batteries, but there were no triple A batteries in the house, so we ignored the computer for the evening. The horror.
Saturday - got up, went to the dentist, went to the computer store, bought a new mouse and keyboard - wired this time. And batteries for the wireless, as a backup. Well, can't read the keys on the keyboard any more, so it's time. And someone suggested that maybe wired would be better for the MMO type game. Well. We can try it. Upgraded my video card too. Nvidia GEForce 6300 I think. (but at least it's 256mb.) I also picked up a Garmin Forerunner GPS for walking/running/biking, so now I no longer have to rely on stupid pedometers that don't work so well. Hah. Got home and we had lunch (mmmm, tacos!) and then Mom and I took Taurus for a walk. Without the Garmin as it was doing its initial charge thing. I think Taurus might be half goat. The dog jumped down two cliffs, and somehow managed to also climb up them. We're still not sure how. But he did survive, and neither Mom nor I actually had a heart attack, though he did give us a big scare both times.
For dinner, venison. And then Mom and Dad went out, leaving me to rp. So, fun scene on SM (that's Serenity Mush for those who were wondering) in which many people laughed like crazy. And more fun on MoL cause Istark is awesome. (And he's the only one who gets mention cause he's the one running the plot. Eventually, we all had to crash to sleep. And Taurus kept me awake most of the night, cause he was lonely.
It's his first time at my place without Magic.
And Mom and Dad didn't get home until 3:30am.
Anyway, got up on Sunday morning, had breakfast and chatted with Mom and then we went outside to do some gardening. We cleaned up the winter debris from the front lawn, raked leaves, relocated some tiger lillies, some day lillies and some violets, put out 3 and a half bags of topsoil, planted some seeds, trimmed some bushes and the tree, put down mulch on one of the flower beds and did a bit more planning. I need more topsoil and mulch in order to finish though. I'm also thinking maybe some cedar chips. Hrm. Anyway, here's hoping those seeds germinate and grow, because that will make my rock garden superb.
Then we went in, got cleaned up and started cooking lunch. Colette, Scott, and the two kiddies came over. We had scallops, black beans and rice, french fries, meat balls and more wine! Much yum. And the kids are great. After lunch, we took Taurus for a walk, and the kids to the playground. The Garmin was all charged up by this time, so I took it along. By the time we were at the playground it had acquired its satellite signals and from the playground to the beach (Wow! The water is really really high right now. There's no beach left!) and then back to my place was 1.17 miles. Darn, I've been under estimating that walk all this time! I could be closer to Lothlorien! Anyway, the Garmin works, and it's pretty nifty. And we had a great weekend.
Afterwards, we got some relaxing in. Mom and Dad went off to visit my Grandmother (Dad's mom). Me - I hit LOTRO. And it hit back, oww. Got a Blue Screen of Death, and then 5 or 6 times the LOTRO client managed to crash, without actually crashing windows XP. Sigh. At least we did manage to get ourselves through book 2! So now I'm ready to start book 3. Whee. Yay for storyline movement. It's lots of fun. Of course, I was not as much help as I could have been if the darn game client had been behaving. Once that was done, I took some time to do some research and discovered there were known issues with my video card type and LOTRO. So, off to the manufacturer's website and I downloaded the newest version of the video card drivers, which claim they fix a number of issues with games etc. Guess we'll see next time I play the game if that resolves the issue or not. I was fed up enough that I switched over to rp on SM and MoL. And chatted with Dominic on SGA.
So, fun weekend, and I'm not really sorry I didn't get to the Odyssey stuff. There's always later. :)
