So I had this huge long post written up, and it got lost. And didn't even end up auto-saved. Humbug.

This means you all get the short version.

Lessee ... FFXI - got to go travel a bit, see a bit of the world outside of Bastok. It's pretty funky out there. Even if my tourguide did end up dead...

I think it's hysterical that sea monsters attack while you're on the boat from Selbina to Mhaura. Finished 2 quests. Got 9 or so more started, but just by talking to the NPC who starts them off. Got to see some very freaky looking critters out there. Damselflies and giraffe things (I forget what they're called, but they're scary big) and ... crawlers. Oh, and I discovered that rock lizards down in the fumaroles have a scary poison that almost killed my poor little monk. (But almost doesn't quite cut it. I won. Hah!) And did I mention that Galka are just big? Yeah, uh huh, they are. wow. If I ever create another character, it'll be Mythra, and then maybe a Galka, just cause.

In other news, Grandma's 90th birthday party was lots of fun. Had a great time and drank a little too much, due mostly to the magically refilling wine glass I seemed to have. I got to meet relatives I'd never seen before, and renew acquaintances with some who I hadn't seen in years. And my grandmother is an amazingly wonderful woman who still lives in a 2 storey house by herself at 90. We all hope we take after her genetically and are doing 3/4 as well as she is when we reach that age.

Watched fireworks from home, both out the windows and on television (live from Parliament Hill, donchaknow).

I also read a book this weekend - one about 1602 Marvel universe thingy. I forget exactly what it was called, but it was onloan from Wolfcat. It was a very interesting read, and neat to see the Marvel characters in such a different environment. I wasn't sure before starting to read it if I'd like it or not, but I found it quite entertaining. Nicely done.

Other book I finished up reading recently was about stories and faith, also on loan from Wolfcat. (I have 1 more of her books on loan but I'm not sure when I'll get that one read.) It was also interesting, though on a much more philosophical level. All about the use of stories in religion and faith, more or less. I find I agree with the book in a great many ways, but that's because what they're saying can be extrapolated outside the realm of religion and into every other realm you like.

Some walking in there, and a bbq on Monday with yummy burgers, chicken, shrimp, coleslaw and blueberry pie.

Managed to miss a big spot on my right shoulder when applying sunscreen yesterday, so I got burnt. Ow. But over all, it was a wonderful long weekend, only it just wasn't long enough.
