Sunshine and lolllipops
Feb. 6th, 2006 12:16 pmWell, sunshine anyway. Though I have to say that my headache has not quite gone away. Yet. It decided to explode last night after I finished up the draft of the essay. Joy. Painkillers are my friend.
In any event, made it to work and discovered that there is sunshine. And one of my coworkers has strep throat. And another has a bad cold. And of course, they're both here today. Strep - that would be just peachy wouldn't it?
I had a bad afternoon on Saturday, since I sent a box off to Norway. There's very little left in my house now that once belonged to Arwen77. It's mostly all gone back to him. The rest of the stuff? I don't think he needs or wants, since he hasn't used it in about 2 years, I think. Any way, it put me in a depressed mood, which is truthfully probably what brought on the headache.
This too shall pass.
Positive attitude, that says it all, doesn't it? Though it is sometimes hard to stick with it. I keep reminding myself that there are others who are in worse situations, but in the middle of my own self-pity, it's hard for even that truth to make me feel better.
Oh, and I was reading in someone's LJ about good and evil and whether there is an absolute good and an absolute evil. It's an interesting question in many ways. There are whole books written on the topic. The first question is whether we as humans ever see anything absolute, whether it is there or not. We see things through our own mental filters and may never really get to the "absolute" in one view. In another view, there is an absolute and we do sense/understand/know it. For my part, I tend to believe more in the relativist side. There may be an absolute, and we may understand it to some degree, but we can't be sure, since we see/hear/feel/touch everything through our senses. It's always filtered, both physically and mentally.
Getting back to good and evil, it's all about intention, isn't it? An action isn't absolutely good or evil, without intention. In this way of looking at it, actions are never evil or good. But beings are. People, demons, angels (if such exist) ... evil or good is predicated upon who is acting and why. I'm not sure if this is the right answer, of course, but it does make for a fairly straightforward way of looking at things. Not so straightforward a way of proving anything, granted, but that's just the way it goes. I'd write more, but this is already long enough and I have things to do.
Perhaps later.
