I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm not trying to tell anyone else what to do with their own LJs. It's your LJ, by all means do what you want. So long as you meet the rules and regs of the site, more power to you.
But because I'm procrastinating, I do have a thought or two about my own LJ.
So, let's see. Yes, it is my LJ, and I can post what I want in it. That's first.
However, there are ways ...
For instance, if I post something publicly, then anyone can read it - including perhaps my boss. I should always be reasonably circumspect when posting publicly.
If I post something locked to my friends, then I should keep in mind that my friends are reading it. And if it's something I wouldn't say to their face, well, maybe I should lock the post private, so they don't see it at all.
It's kind of an interesting thing - I mean, I know that there are people on my friend's list, and I can assume that they at least sometimes peruse my journal. Okay, I'm human, sometimes I post before I think - yes, it happens. But I do try. Because sometimes when I rant in my journal in an effort to relax and get over it, it can have unintended effects on those who read it, who I might consider good friends.
And if I don't consider them good friends, I at least trust them enough that I've put them on the friend's list, so they can see the post. Either way, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I try to not post things that I think will hurt specific people who read it. If it's a general comment, and someone takes offence though I never meant to offend them, that's a different thing.
I figure, there are better ways to offend people than in my LJ.
Does this make sense? Maybe. Maybe not. In the end, it doesn't really matter if it makes sense to anyone but me. No offense meant, folks, but this time, I'm just babbling to get things a little clearer in my head.
